- Exact width and height
dimensions of the window - Window Tech Systems windows will
be manufactured to the ordered dimensions.
- Width and height dimensions of the
opening using the smallest of three width and height measurements
- Window Tech Systems' normal cut backs on the window are
3/8" on the width dimension and a minimum of 1/4"
on the height dimension.
INSTALLATION
The selection
of the window assembly to be employed in openings shall be
made by the appropriate architect or contractor, who best
knows the thermal, wind load, and structural requirements
for the installed windows. Installation materials and procedures
involving anchors, blocks, shims, and fasteners should be
specified by the architect or contractor.
To assist installers,
installation guidelines hereby are provided for their consideration:
- Single window openings
- for a single window to be installed in an opening, the
procedural steps listed below may be employed.
- Multiple window openings
- for two or more vinyl windows to be installed in an opening,
windows with the following frame members are available:
- Mulled mechanical vinyl
windows - frame members of mechanical vinyl double hung,
slider, and picture windows shall be connected with matching
vinyl structural h-mullions.
- Mulled welded vinyl windows
- frame members of welded vinyl double hung, slider, and
picture window shall be firmly joined with specially designed
vinyl straight mullions either at the job site or at Window
Tech Systems' plant.
- Common jamb mullions with
continuous headers and sills - frame construction of multiple
welded vinyl single hung and slider windows consists of
common vinyl jamb mullions with continuous headers and sills.
Twin or triple single hung windows are preassembled at Window
Tech Systems' plant.
The following procedural
steps may be followed to complete the installation of the
multiple window units:
- Check width and height
of the frame opening and of the replacement window to ensure
the right window is being installed.
- Inspect and operate moving
components of the replacement with the center strapping
band in place. This procedure verifies acceptable quality
of the replacement window prior to installation and removal
of the old window.
- Remove inside trim and
frame of the old window unit. Clean blindspot and casing
areas against which the replacement window will butt.
- Place sill angle on bottom
casing toward the outside of the building. Deposit a 1/4"
bead of caulking around the periphery of the inside face
of the blindspot.
- Install replacement window:
- Retain center strapping
band on the window to keep both sash in place and to maintain
vertical frame alignment during installation.
- If sash is removed from
the window prior to installation, sash must be handled with
great care to avoid development of out-of-square condition
and damage to sash release latches, pivot pins, and installed
glass units.
- Slide head expander up
firmly against the top casing. After centering the window
in the opening, screw jamb alignment clips to achieve plumb
and straight jambs. Proper execution of this step is extremely
important to ensure good operation of the double hung sash.
- Fasten properly aligned
window to casing with installation screws inserted through
the jambs. Care must be taken to avoid over tightening or
under tightening the screws, which may disturb alignment
and create gaps between the window sash and frame.
- Close and work the window
sash. Adjust for squareness with shims where necessary.
Remove the center strapping band only at this stage of installation.
- Check operating conditions
of the following components:
- Pivot pins must be fully
inserted in balance shoes and securely fastened by the adjustable
screw to the sash.
- Spring loaded latches
in sash release units must operate freely and extend fully
into the cavity of the jamb.
- Locks and keepers must
be completely functional and operate smoothly.
- Depending on the specification,
fill all voids between the new window and existing construction
with insulation to eliminate drafts and airflow.
- Caulk all windows where
necessary to ensure airtight and waterproof installations.
